How it's calculated

Fee: original payment (incl. tax and tip) × rate (+1.5% for an international card) + fixed fee, rounded to the cent. Full or partial refund, the fee is never returned.

Left with: original payment − fee − refund amount − costs you can't get back.

Refund cost: fee + costs you can't get back. Money returned to the customer isn't a loss.

Not included: Square Pro custom rates ($250k+ a year), chargebacks, ACH, Afterpay. Your real rate is in Square Dashboard → Settings → Pricing & subscriptions.
